Lizzo was a member of a rock-prog group where she sang and played the flute. Her family moved to Denver and she was now on her own striving to make Houston her new home. Lizzo was a car owner and sometimes slept on the floor of her studio. She also went to the gym for showers at the fitness center. Lizzo's father passed away when she was twenty-one. The two had been close and it was a very devastating loss. She quit the group in 2010, following her father's passing. After a brief stint in Denver, Lizzo moved to Minneapolis in 2011 at the invitation of a good friend. Lizzo soon was in the center of the Minneapolis music scene. She was in the girl groups Chalice and GRRRL PRETY. Her debut album Lizzobangers came out in 2013 under an independent label.
